This article explains how to recover an existing wallet on imKey Pro and connect the device to imToken. Before you begin, make sure you have a complete backup of your recovery phrase. After recovery, check that the wallet address matches your original address.
Before You Begin
Check your backup. Confirm the word count, spelling, and order of the words in your recovery phrase. If your imKey Pro already contains another wallet, you must reset the device first. Resetting clears the wallet data currently stored on the device, so make sure you have backed up that wallet’s recovery phrase before proceeding.
Enter your recovery phrase only on imKey Pro. Never enter it on a website, in a chat, or in the imToken app. Do not photograph, screenshot, or upload it to the cloud. Customer support never needs to see your recovery phrase to troubleshoot an issue. Anyone asking for your recovery phrase or private key is asking for control of your assets.
Recovering a previously used software wallet on imKey Pro does not eliminate any prior exposure risk. If a recovery phrase was generated or used on an internet-connected device, such as a phone, recovering it on imKey Pro cannot undo any earlier exposure. To protect your assets with a hardware wallet, create a new recovery phrase on imKey Pro and transfer your assets to the new wallet. If you recover a wallet on imKey Pro using a recovery phrase that is already imported in imToken, you may also see an “Account already exists in this wallet and cannot be added again” message when connecting imKey Pro to imToken.
1. Recover Your Wallet on imKey Pro
- Turn on imKey Pro and follow the device prompts to select a language and set a PIN. Select Recover Wallet, then press OK to confirm.
- Select the number of words in your backed-up recovery phrase: 12, 18, or 24. Press OK to confirm.
Note: imKey can recover wallets from 12-, 18-, or 24-word recovery phrases. When creating a new wallet, imKey generates a 12-word recovery phrase.
- Use the physical buttons on imKey Pro to enter each word in its original order. Use the up and down buttons to move between options, press OK to confirm, and press C to go back or cancel. Follow the prompts on the device screen.
- Wait for the recovery to finish. When the device displays Wallet recovered successfully, proceed to pairing.
2. Connect to imToken and Check Your Address
- Turn on Bluetooth on your phone. Open imToken and go to Me → Manage Wallets.
- Tap + Add Wallet → Connect Other Wallets → imKey.
- Hold imKey Pro near your phone and select your device from the search results. Follow the prompts to enter the Bluetooth pairing code shown on imKey Pro.
- Follow the prompts to enter the binding code displayed on imKey Pro. Back up the code, enter it in imToken, and tap Next.
Note: The binding code is used to bind imKey to imToken or imKey Manager. Keep a secure backup of it.
- Once connected, select the same network and account as your original wallet in imToken. Compare the receiving address with an address you saved previously. Use the wallet only after confirming that they match.
Frequently Asked Questions
What if imKey Pro says a word in my recovery phrase is incorrect?
First, check that you selected the correct number of words. Then check each word’s spelling and order, and make sure your backup is complete. Do not guess between similar words or send your recovery phrase to customer support. If you still cannot recover the wallet, contact support through the official imKey Help Center. You can share the error message and the step where it appeared, but never share your recovery phrase.
What if the address or balance is different after recovery?
First, check that you selected the correct network and account. Then check whether the original wallet used a different derivation path or address type. For a BTC wallet, also check whether the address used Taproot, Native SegWit, or Nested SegWit. A zero balance in the currently displayed account does not mean the assets at your original address are lost. Do not send assets to the newly displayed address until you have resolved the difference.
What if I forgot my binding code?
If you can still connect using your original phone, you can view the binding code on the imKey Management page in imToken. If you cannot view it and have no backup, first confirm that your wallet’s recovery phrase is fully backed up. Then follow the reset guide to reset the device, recover the wallet, and bind it to imToken again. Back up the newly generated binding code.
