During initial setup, imKey Pro performs device authentication and secure activation to verify the device's authenticity.
During manufacturing, a device certificate is provisioned to the device's secure element (SE). During initial activation, the system validates the device certificate and verifies its issuer's digital signature to authenticate the device. Following additional authentication, the device's management keys are updated through an established secure channel. Once activation is complete, the production-stage credentials can no longer be used to perform the associated secure element management operations. This helps reduce the risk of unauthorized device management using production-stage credentials.
Device authentication and secure activation do not replace a physical inspection of the device's hardware. Even if the original secure element passes authentication, the device may contain additional circuitry, modules, or other unauthorized physical modifications. Passing authentication or completing activation alone does not prove that the device has not been tampered with.
We recommend purchasing imKey devices through the official imKey store or authorized resellers listed on our website. Check their authorization status before purchasing. Avoid devices from unknown or unverified sources to reduce security risks during distribution.
Before You Check
This guide provides hardware reference images for both the Micro-USB and USB-C versions of imKey Pro. These images are provided to help identify visible differences in hardware components and potential signs of tampering. Image comparisons alone cannot prove that a device has not been tampered with. Normal differences may also exist between hardware versions or production batches.
⚠️ Important
Do not disassemble the device yourself. Disassembly may cause irreversible damage to the casing, screen, battery, or internal connections. Damage resulting from unauthorized disassembly may not be covered under imKey's warranty, in accordance with the applicable after-sales policy.
Use these images only as a troubleshooting reference: The images are intended to help identify suspected hardware abnormalities. If you suspect that your device has been tampered with, stop using it and contact imKey Support for further guidance. You do not need to open the device to compare it with these images.

What If You Notice Differences?
Some hardware differences may be normal across product versions or production batches. Refer to official imKey hardware documentation, where available, for information on known variations.
Stop using the device and contact imKey Support for verification if you notice any of the following:
- Additional circuit boards, modules, or unidentified wires that do not appear in the reference images for the corresponding version.
- A substantially different layout or connection arrangement for major components.
- Obvious cuts to the PCB, component replacements, or signs of possible solder rework.
Do not remove additional components, resolder connections, or attempt repairs yourself. Differences in individual solder joints, adhesive, or component markings alone are not enough to establish tampering. Further assessment must take the specific hardware version into account.
What If You Cannot Confirm the Device’s Integrity?
Leave the device in its current condition and contact imKey Support at support@imkey.im for further assistance. Provide the device model, serial number (SN), purchase channel, and a description of the issue. If the device has already been opened by a qualified technician, you may also submit clear photos showing the internal layout and any areas of concern. You do not need to disassemble the device yourself to provide photos.
Until the device has been assessed and cleared by imKey Support, do not use it to generate a new wallet, restore an existing wallet, or enter any recovery phrase.
imKey Support will never ask you to disclose your recovery phrase, private keys, PIN, or binding code as part of a hardware verification process. Before taking photos, make sure none of this sensitive information is visible.
