What is 1Password?
1Password is a password management tool that securely stores and auto-fills sensitive information such as your login credentials and payment details. The 1Password account itself uses a combination of "Account Password + Secret Key" to protect data. You can also enable two-factor authentication (2FA) to add an extra verification step when signing in on a new device or in a new browser.
Why use imKey Pass S6?
Using imKey Pass S6 as your 1Password second factor adds an extra layer of protection to your account. Once enabled, in addition to your 1Password account password and Secret Key, a second factor is required when logging in on a new device.: you’ll need to plug in the hardware key and complete local verification (PIN / fingerprint). This significantly improves protection against phishing and account takeovers.
Before you start
- A browser that supports passkeys, such as Chrome or Edge
- An available USB-C port (if you have USB-A, a high-quality adapter is recommended)
- Your imKey Pass S6 is available and working properly (recommended: PIN set and fingerprint enrolled)
- If not set up: You will usually be guided to complete PIN setup and fingerprint enrollment during the initial binding process.
1. Enable 2FA in 1Password and add imKey Pass S6
- On your computer, open the 1Password web app and sign in at my.1password.com.
- Click your profile icon in the top-right corner and select Manage Account.
- On the account management page, click More Actions, then select Manage Two-Factor Authentication.
- On the Two-Factor Authentication page, under Security Keys, click Add a Security Key.
- Enter a name for the key (e.g., imKey Pass S6) and click Next.
- Insert your imKey Pass S6, then touch the fingerprint sensor to complete registration.
- If this is your first time, you’ll be prompted to set a PIN and enroll a fingerprint.
- When you see “Your security key was successfully registered”, setup is complete.
Recommendation: Add a backup security key (a second imKey Pass S6 or another compatible key) and store it separately from your primary key.
2. How to Use During Login (When will it be triggered?)
After enabling 2FA, when you sign in to 1Password on a new device or in a new browser, you’ll be asked to complete a second verification step after entering your account password and Secret Key. Choose Security Key and use imKey Pass S6 to verify.
3. How to Manage / replace / remove security keys
Go to: Manage Account → More Actions → Manage Two-Factor Authentication.
In the Two-Factor Authentication section, you can:
- Add new security keys (adding a backup is recommended)
- Remove security keys that are lost or no longer in use.
Important security notes
- Prepare a backup before removing/resetting: Before removing a security key or resetting your imKey Pass S6, make sure you still have another working sign-in or recovery method to avoid being locked out of your 1Password account.
- Keep recovery info safe: Store your 1Password Emergency Kit securely, and generate/store a Recovery Code as needed to handle situations where devices are lost or verification is not possible.
